Stonebridge Carras Proposes New Development Near Eisenhower Metro


Initial design concept reviewed by the Carlyle Design Review Board

The Carlyle Design Review Board on January 19, reviewed a development proposal by Stonebridge Carras for Hoffman Town Center Blocks 4 and 5 at 2410 and 2460 Mill Road.  The site, located between Mandeville Lane and Mill Road, north of the AMC 22 theaters, consists of two parcels with slightly more than 5 acres, and is proposed for residential use with ground floor retail.  The project includes 730 dwelling units in three towers: a rental building with 410 units, a 120-unit condominium, and a 200-unit senior living facility.  An 80,000 sf grocery store is included in the proposed 220,000 gross square feet of retail.  The project will have more than 1,600 parking spaces.

City Extends Life of Mulch Pile

The City’s Mulch Pile at 4251 Eisenhower Avenue adjacent to the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter is slated to remain with us for the foreseeable future.  The Mulch Pile’s Special Use Permit was due to expire, but Planning Commission and City Council action have added another ten years to its permitted life.

Eisenhower Avenue Widening Project Moving Slowly

Eisenhower Avenue is slated to be widened between Eisenhower Circle and Mill Road.  The project’s design is being finalized and coordination with utility companies is underway.  City staff is currently in the process of negotiating acquisition of right of way.  Construction bidding is likely in early 2018, while the construction period is estimated at 18 months.

People in the News

Sandy Modell, general manager of the DASH bus system, has retired after 28 yearswith the Alexandria Transit Company.  Her “DASHing Forward” farewell party is being held on February 2 from 4:30 to 7:30 at the DASH bus facility at 3000 Business Center Drive.  Sandy worked with the Eisenhower Partnership in our early years to expand bus service along Eisenhower Avenue. 




Upcoming Events

The Eisenhower Partnership Marketing Committee has prepared a slate of events for 2017, including our signature City Manager Breakfast, several groundbreaking ceremonies and happy hours, and sponsorship of events by other entities.  This robust menu of events will provide numerous opportunities for members to gain visibility as an event sponsor and to network with other members.  In March, we will welcome City Manager Mark Jinks for an update on the budget and various issues facing the City.  A March Happy Hour (cash bar) is also planned.

Sponsorship and Advertising Opportunities

The marketing committee is also preparing a list of sponsorship opportunities, levels of sponsorship, and sponsorship benefits.  We will publish a list and rates in our next issue.  The Marketing Committee is chaired by Scott Kersjes, with Janet Gregor serving as Co-chair.

Membership dues renewal invoices for memberships due to renew in the first quarter of 2017 are being mailed.  Please renew your membership promptly – dues and sponsorships are the Eisenhower Partnership’s only sources of income.
